We are seeking an experienced Director of Safety to join our growing team!  

The Director of Safety is responsible for managing the company’s safety program to ensure a safe, injury, and incident-free work environment. As our company grows and our safety culture develops, we have a need for a Director of Safety that can function as a safety officer in the field, a policy writer and implementor in the office, and overall risk manager of all our occupational health and safety obligations. 

Key Responsibilities:

  • Report to and advise COO and Sr. Executives on all major safety matters 
  • Develop, model, and reinforce a positive, world class safety culture within the company 
  • Develop, implement, and own engaging, best in class safety policy and procedures for the company, including but not limited to: 
  • Safety manual 
  • New Employee safety orientation and follow up 
  • Reporting 
  • Incident Investigation 
  • Training 
  • Maintain OSHA 300 log 
  • Oversee and run claims management for Workers Compensation 
  • Oversee and run claims management and situation management for OSHA 
  • Oversee and run claims management and situation management for L&I 
  • Seek and provide interpretations on regulatory and safety issues 
  • Act as safety liaison for the company 
  • Visit sites and shops, develop rapport with leaders and crew, and determine gaps in understanding and implementation of safety expectations 
  • Reinforce positive behaviors 
  • Provide methods and means to improve 
  • Conduct audits and provide feedback 
  • Conduct weekly company-wide safety call 
  • Maintain current information on safety qualification sites (for clients)  
  • Support company proposal process with language, statistics, and presentations 
  • Review and comment on site safety plans 
  • Actively manage injuries and any resulting claims 
  • Represent company in cases involving OSHA, WISHA, L&I or like type agencies 
  • Be able to travel nationally 

 Education and Experience Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s Degree or experience may be substituted
  • Construction experience 
  • Preferred 5 years working closely with or part of the Senior/Director level 
  • Fully OSHA 510 Certified Preferred, OSHA 30 
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office, especially Excel 
  • Proficient communication, writing and grammar skills 
  • Successful completion of a Certified Safety Professional or equivalent program 
  • Possess immense knowledge of health and safety processes and practices 
  • Ability to manage and control all types of health and safety issues 
  • Evaluate the probable physical hazards and take essential steps to minimize them  
  • Ability to research and apply the best practices to provide effective services 
  • Abreast with new changes in laws and regulations 
  • Research safety information pertaining to all applicable states/counties/etc. 
  • Ability to work in teams and lead a project 
  • Outstanding organizational and interpersonal skills 
  • Ability to provide and implement plans, objectives and standards timely
